they spend money on leaves not just for this. the event also gives out maple weapons/hats (with upgrades) in return for the leaves. (just talk to the maple admin)

Lots of people are trying to get this because it is the most affordable way to get a INT or LUK GLOVE

just get the leaves and sell them no point in geting it not that good
